1. Norwegian Cruise Line: Norwegian Aura Float-Out
Norwegian Cruise Line has completed the float-out of their newest ship, the Norwegian Aura — the first time the vessel touched water after leaving the shipyard.
- 10% larger than any existing NCL ship
- Passenger capacity: 3,880
- Maiden voyage scheduled: May 21st, next year
- The Aura is the next of seven new ships in Norwegian's pipeline
2. Princess Cruises: Tragic Discovery Off Spain
The Sapphire Princess made a grim discovery while sailing off the southern coast of Spain between Spain and Algeria.
- A crew member spotted an orange object drifting in the water and raised the alarm
- The object was identified as a lifejacket
- Upon further investigation, five deceased bodies were found
- Recovery effort took approximately three hours
- None of the individuals were passengers or crew from the ship
- An investigation is currently underway
3. CLIA Data: Shore Excursion Participation by Generation
More than 70% of cruise passengers went on at least one shore excursion last year. Breakdown by generation:

4. Royal Caribbean: New "Early Assign" Booking Feature
Royal Caribbean is introducing a new option for guaranteed cabin bookings called Early Assign.
How guaranteed cabins work:
- Passenger selects a category (inside, ocean view, balcony, suite)
- Cruise line assigns the specific room
- Typically assigned just a few days before sailing
- Can result in a higher category cabin — or a less desirable one
How Early Assign works:
- Available at final payment for a $30 fee
- Stateroom is assigned immediately after payment
- Option to switch to another open cabin in the same category at no additional cost
Caveats:
- Not available with casino fares
- Currently available for U.S. bookings only
5. U.S. DOT: Q1 2026 Cruise Incident Report
The U.S. Department of Transportation released its mandatory quarterly cruise incident report. Cruise ships embarking or disembarking in the U.S. are required to report certain incidents to the FBI, which shares the data with the DOT.

6. Seattle Alaska Cruise Season Now Underway
Seattle's Alaska cruise season has officially kicked off, launched by the departure of Holland America's Nordum.
- Season runs through October 11th
- 2.1 million passengers expected through the port
- 16 vessels from major cruise lines homeporting in Seattle this season
7. Oceania Cruises: Major Ship Transformation
Oceania Cruises is undertaking a rare and significant overhaul of the Oceania Nautica, which will emerge as an entirely new ship — the Oceania Aurelia.
- Current capacity (as Nautica): 600 passengers
- New capacity (as Aurelia): fewer than 500 passengers
- Crew maintained at approximately 400
- Most accommodations redesigned as suites with a private residence feel
- Dedicated exclusively to world cruises and grand voyages
- Intended to be Oceania's premier luxury extended sailing product
- Debut: 2027
8. Cunard Line: Full Fleet Reunion in Liverpool — May 2028
Cunard Line has announced that all four ships in their fleet will unite for the first time ever in Liverpool, England — the city where the company was founded in 1840.
- Event date: May 18, 2028
- Hosted by Cunard president Katie McAllister
- The four ships:
- Queen Mary II (launched 2004)
- Queen Anne (debuted 2 years ago)
- Plus two additional fleet ships
