Hotel Xcaret Mexico 2026

Arrival & First Impressions

  • Grand entrance with on-site stores/shops
  • Stunning ocean and infinity pool views from the lobby area
  • Heads up: Upon check-in, staff will direct you to a small room for "concierge" — this is a timeshare sales pitch. Politely decline ("no thank you") and walk away if not interested
  • Infinity pool is visible from a bridge connecting different sections of the resort, overlooking the ocean
  • Property has a network of rivers/lazy-river-style waterways with floating chairs and paddle boats
  • Resort layout described as maze-like — lots of stairs, zigzags, caves, and hidden pockets (a "zoo" to navigate)

Restaurant #1: Bayo (Lunch — Vegetarian/Vegan)

  • Located inside a cave-like setting with a river flowing through the restaurant
  • Closes at 12pm for breakfast service
  • Fully vegan menu, but doesn't taste like typical "vegan" food

What was ordered:

  • French toast bread with fruit — chocolate-based, but not overpoweringly so. Reviewer doesn't like chocolate and still finished the whole thing. Recommended even for non-chocolate fans.
  • Açaí bowl (the dish "everyone talks about") — bananas, raspberries, strawberries, peanuts (note: contains peanuts, allergy warning). Highly recommended for fruit lovers.

Verdict: First-time vegan food experience, very positive — "highly recommended."

Exploring Phase 2 / Resort Amenities

  • Multiple pools and water slides throughout the property
  • Macanitas — arcade/bar area with retro gaming theme:
    • Foosball, pinball, Jurassic Park and Jaws machines
    • Old CRT TVs, PlayStation consoles, Crash Bandicoot
    • Power Rangers/Ninja Turtles themed seating, car-shaped chairs
    • Hidden bar/alcove inside the arcade
  • Boat dock area — boats available to take guests to Xcaret Park (alternative to the bus)
  • Saw a tall drop slide from the pool area — noted as a must-try

Room Tour: Casa 5429 (Agua Casa, River Spa View)

Layout/features:

  • Open-concept double sink area near the bed
  • Separate bathtub
  • Walk-in shower
  • Toilet in an enclosed room with a frosted/mirrored door for privacy
  • King-size bed, ample drawer storage, in-room safe
  • Large TV, coffee station, Mexican-exclusive snacks
  • Mini fridge stocked with Coke, Corona, Sprite, juice, and water
  • Linen/towel card system — place card on pillow if you want daily changes (otherwise changed every 2 days)

Outdoor space:

  • Private one-person hot tub (nicer/more designed than the generic hot tub at Ocean Riviera Paradise, which had a 2-person tub)
  • Hammock
  • River view — described as secluded (only a nearby bridge has potential sightlines)

Overall room verdict: Unique, no other hotel comparison — very happy with the room for a 6-night stay.

Welcome Gifts

  • Resort staff brought unsolicited welcome gifts before guests left for lunch:
    • All-chocolate dessert/candy item
    • A complimentary bottle of alcohol (unidentified — possibly a cream/pistachio liqueur, "Crema de Pistachio" type)
  • Gifts were given for free, "on the house," communicated in Spanish

Restaurant #2: Las Playas (Lunch)

What was ordered:

  • La Suprema Salad
  • Guacamole with chips
  • Lasagna in red sauce
  • Tacos
  • Coconut dessert with peanuts

Reviews:

  • Coconut shrimp — really good
  • Rice dish — good
  • Lasagna — well-liked by the other traveler
  • Tacos — best the reviewer has had, not spicy, sauces served on the side, generous meat portion, topped with a "cheese at home" style topping (first time seeing this on a taco)
  • Dessert — good
  • Overall: good atmosphere, waterside seating, no complaints on first two restaurants

Pool Time

  • Infinity pool (same one seen earlier) — large, ocean-view, bar and restaurant adjacent
  • First Malibu cocktail of the trip — rated as good or better than the Malibu at the previous hotel

The Walkway Bridges (Notable Resort Quirk)

  • Several rope/suspension-style bridges connect rooms to the rest of the resort
  • Bridges sway noticeably, especially in the middle — could be unsettling for those with vertigo or fear of heights
  • Not all room sections may require crossing these (uncertain if Phase 2 rooms avoid them)
  • Note for thrill-seekers: if you can handle these bridges, you can handle the resort's zip-lining

Restaurant #3: Las Cuevas (Dinner — Buffet/Brazilian Steakhouse Style)

  • Located in a cave setting with a river running through; visible water slide drops directly into the river nearby
  • ~15-minute walk from the room area
  • Reservation was for 7:00pm, arrived ~7:15pm — no issue

Buffet spread included:

  • Multiple pasta dishes, paella (large format), clam chowder and soups
  • Seafood station: shrimp, crab
  • Fresh fruit station: pineapple, salmon, grapes
  • Salad bar: macaroni salad, potato salad, make-your-own salad with fresh vegetables
  • Cheese and salami selection
  • Variety of breads (tip: skip the bread from the cart, get the garlic bread — served warm)

Meat service (Brazilian steakhouse style — servers circulate continuously):

  • Picanha (reviewer's favorite — described as "straight up Portuguese")
  • Sausage
  • Bacon-wrapped chicken
  • Turkey leg
  • New York strip
  • Lamb
  • Use the table indicator card to signal staff when you want more meat or are done

Verdict: Everything was amazing, "literally nothing bad," extensive variety.

Evening Exploration

  • Pool area lit up at night — described as one of the only "relaxing" evenings of the trip (most other nights have scheduled activities)
  • Walkways have a different, moodier vibe at night with lighting
  • Golf carts — available in one of the lobbies (location to be confirmed) inside a cave area; can transport guests to the opposite side of the resort
  • Ice cream/sorbet shop ("Exorbe" or similar) — located underneath the lobby in the Phase 2 section (not the main lobby), near Macanitas. Offers popsicles (some alcoholic), sorbets; ice cream was closed at time of visit

Phase 2 Lobby & Nightclub

  • Phase 2 main lobby has a dramatic, architecturally striking design — large open space with tree/water features
  • Lookout balcony with a glass/see-through floor — estimated 200-400 ft drop, described as unsettling
  • Nightclub (possibly "Exubis") — visited but empty since it was early (clubs typically don't open until ~10pm); plan to return later in the week
  • Bus pickup area for park transportation located near this lobby (alternative to taxi)

Late-Night Food Court

  • Open late, large variety:
    • Churros
    • Tacos
    • Smash burgers
    • Tostadas
    • Pizza with chorizo, marinated pork, queso, regular cheese
    • Nachos
    • Fresh fruit
    • Jamaica (hibiscus drink) — recommended, especially for fruit lovers
  • Movie screening area and ball pit also located in this section

Quick Takeaways for Future Travelers

  • Decline the timeshare pitch at check-in
  • Try the açaí bowl and French toast at Bayo, even if vegan/chocolate isn't usually your thing
  • The tacos at Las Playas were a standout
  • Get the garlic bread (not regular bread) at Las Cuevas
  • Be prepared for swaying suspension bridges between room sections
  • Ice cream shop is in Phase 2, under the secondary lobby — not the main entrance lobby
  • Boats are a fun alternative to buses for getting to Xcaret Park
