Top 3 Most Improved Disney World Resorts in 2026

Presented by Mike, TheParkProdigy.com

Context

Disney has quietly stripped away many on-site perks in recent years — Magical Express, robust extra magic hours, free MagicBands. In 2026, three resorts have undergone transformations significant enough to change whether they're worth booking. This ranking is based on Mike's firsthand stays at each property.

Also covered: one value resort to avoid in 2026, and one to watch in 2027.

#3 — Disney's Pop Century Resort

Why it made the list: Pop Century just completed a multi-year, resort-wide refurbishment in early 2026. Unlike most Disney refreshes that only touch guest rooms, this one hit virtually every guest-facing space. Combined with Skyliner access — which Mike considers the best value resort connector on property — Pop Century becomes a strong pick for budget-conscious families.

What's new:

Lobby Reimagined with vibrant floor-to-ceiling artwork inspired by pop culture from the 1950s through the 1990s. A new TV wall features vintage-style television frames as a retro backdrop. The layout was reconfigured with more seating and communal tables — noticeably more relaxed and family-friendly, especially on travel days.

Guest Rooms Brighter color palettes and warmer flooring throughout. The previous rooms felt worn; this was a well-needed refresh to a layout that was already solid.

Pool Bar Completely repainted with a new digital menu board, refreshed seating, and updated finishes across the pool deck.

Everything Pop Food Court A new coffee nook was added — a quality-of-life upgrade Mike specifically called out for early park mornings and iced coffee drinkers.

Bottom line: At value resort pricing, with everything feeling new for 2026 and early 2027, it earns the #3 spot.

2027 Watch: All-Star Movies Resort

Room upgrades and modernization are underway from late May 2026 through January 2027. Could be a strong value pick in 2027 and beyond.

#2 — Disney's Port Orleans Riverside

Why it made the list: Riverside has long been considered the best-themed moderate resort at Walt Disney World. It's currently undergoing a major overhaul, particularly in the Magnolia Bend area, including the fan-favorite Royal Guest Rooms. Mike stayed two weeks prior to filming and was genuinely surprised by the scope of the upgrades.

What's new:

Newly Renovated Rooms Standard rooms now incorporate Princess and the Frog storytelling, tying directly into Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom. Updates include a beautiful vanity area, double sinks, separate shower and toilet rooms, and significantly more vibrant color throughout.

Royal Guest Rooms Also updated with heavy Princess and the Frog theming. Important note: Royal Room inventory has been cut in half, so early booking is essential if these are a priority.

Note on availability: Not every room in the resort is upgraded yet. Mike confirms his room was, and that a significant number of Royal Rooms have been done — but it's worth verifying at booking.

Construction Active construction is visible near the food court area. Disney is continuing to expand and improve the resort footprint.

Cool Kid Summer (Summer 2026) Character meet-and-greets are coming to the resort for the first time during summer 2026.

What was already great:

  • 5–6 pools on property
  • Strong arcade
  • What Mike considers the best quick-service location across all Disney World hotels, including the deluxe resorts — jambalaya, gumbo, parmesan chicken fingers
  • Typically the best-priced moderate resort due to its size

Bottom line: Moderate pricing, deluxe-competing amenities, best-priced in its tier, and now with renovated rooms that justify the stay. Solid #2.

#1 — Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Why it's #1: Disney's flagship hotel has finally entered what Mike calls its "completed era" after years of construction walls and rolling refurbishment timelines. Every major restaurant is open. The lobby transformation is done. Guest rooms have been upgraded. The full Grand Floridian experience is available for the first time in years.

What's new:

Reimagined Lobby & The Perch (Lobby Bar) Open since December 2025. New woodwork, airy colors, refreshed carpet. Mike was initially opposed to a lobby bar in the flagship hotel but says Disney executed it in a way that doesn't detract from the resort's atmosphere — it doesn't feel cheap or out of place.

Dining — Full Roster Now Open

  • 1900 Park Fare — The last restaurant to reopen, now with new character lineups
  • Citrico's — New menu and decor inspired by Mary Poppins
  • Narcoossie's — Mike's pick for best sit-down restaurant in all of Walt Disney World; fireworks views from Magic Kingdom if timed right
  • Victoria & Albert's — Michelin-starred, back in operation
  • Enchanted Rose Lounge — Extended hours now open earlier than before; Mike hopes this helps manage wait times

Garden View Tea Room Returned after a six-year hiatus on March 19, 2026, with a refreshed Alice in Wonderland-themed interior. Pricing: $79/adult, $49/child. Mike and his wife attended on Easter weekend and genuinely enjoyed it — tea selection, scones, and small bites included.

Guest Rooms Updated with sophisticated Mary Poppins touches and brighter colors. Mike's take: the rooms now align with what guests should expect at this price point.

Pricing in 2026 Mike spotted rooms around $500/night — unusually low for the Grand Floridian, which typically runs $700–$1,000+. With Disney's recurring 30% off promotions, rates around $750 are possible. His view: if staying at the Grand Floridian has been on the list, 2026 is the time.

Bottom line: Fully renovated, all restaurants open, and at historically low pricing for the property. The unambiguous #1 most improved Disney World resort in 2026.
